Mounir Bechara

Principal Psychologist

Mounir is the Principal Psychologist and Co Director of Guiding Light Psychology. He is a registered psychologist with extensive experience working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families across a broad range of presentations.

Mounir works with concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation, grief, relational distress, identity issues, and life transitions. He has a particular interest in working with complex presentations that involve long standing patterns, attachment difficulties, and high emotional intensity. His approach is structured, practical, and grounded in evidence based care.

He draws on a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Emotion Focused Therapy. Mounir tailors treatment to the individual, with a strong focus on insight, accountability, emotional regulation, and sustainable change. He places importance on clarity, boundaries, and helping clients develop the capacity to face difficult internal experiences rather than avoid them.

Mounir is of Lebanese background and is bilingual in English and Arabic. He is a Maronite Catholic and welcomes the integration of faith and spirituality into the therapeutic process when this is desired by the client and clinically appropriate. He is attentive to cultural, family, and value based factors that shape each person’s experience.

Qualifications

Mounir holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), a Graduate Diploma in Psychology, and a Master’s of Professional Psychology from Western Sydney University.

He holds full registration as a general psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Mounir is a Board Approved Supervisor and an approved allied health practitioner of the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA). He is also an approved sponsor for the Work and Development Order (WDO) scheme.

His additional training includes EMDR Therapy Levels 1 and 2 and Level 1 training in the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy.
